About Jayana

Jayana Espinoza is a Birth Doula and Portrait Photographer based in Troy, NY. Her work focuses on vulnerability and preservation of legacy through photo documentation and birth work. 

 

After witnessing countless cases of coercion as a birth photographer, Jayana has committed to amplifying the experiences of and bringing awareness to the extreme racial disparities faced by Black and Brown parents through her birth work as a doula. By providing evidence-based education alongside emotional and physical support, Jayana seeks to empower Black and Brown families by offering kindness, transparency, radical care, and honesty at every stage of engagement. 

 

In her practice, Jayana pulls inspiration from and centers the ancestral wisdom inherited from the long lineage of Garifuna women she comes from.
