About Betsy

The childbearing year is a miraculous, magical time of growth in so many ways – physically, personally through inner explorations, relationally, and spiritually. People become mothers and families become families. I continue to be honored to be present as a support and guide through this amazing time.

I am the mother of two grown daughters, a wife, a grandma, a teacher, a childbirth educator, a midwife, a birth activist, a doula and founder of The Family Life Center and Family Life Midwifery, PLLC in Albany, NY. I am one of the co-founders of BirthNet, a local non-profit, anti-racist organization whose mission is to eliminate the inequities in birth outcomes for all childbearing people and to ensure that all birthing families receive respectful and supportive maternity and infant care. I train doulas and am happy to have seen the number of doulas in the Capital District grow exponentially. I have been a doula since 1977, an RN since 1980, a Certified Professional Midwife since 1998 and a NY State licensed midwife specializing in homebirth since 2011. I have been supporting families during their childbearing year since 1976, including supporting water births and renting birthing pools for over 20 years. I have been blessed to be present at hundreds of births at all the area hospitals and in families' homes.
